Madison Park Technical Vocational High School Monorail Hoist Control Upgrade

This large vocational high school in the heart of Boston has a motor driven trolley and hoist on a curved monorail that can be controlled from two levels of the facility with a maximum lift of nearly 50’. The controller was a traditional style, hardwired pendant which need to be rolled up when in use at the upper level and was continually being dragged and damaged. In addition, when being driven into the upper level barn door entrance, reaching out to access the pendant and pull it up was dangerous for the operator. Because this is a multi-speed hoist and trolley piece of equipment, utilizing very old wound rotor/slip ring /resistor control architecture, utilizing a radio control package would be difficult. PES re-designed the speed control logic, rewired all of the controls and integrated a radio controller into the system.
